We are excited to welcome families to Sage Canyon's first-ever Celebration of Learning (with Food Trucks!). We welcome all to come and see how your student is engaging in their learning. Come and walk around our beautiful school, meet teachers, see evidence of your student's learning, and if you want, purchase dinner from the available food trucks. The event will go from 3:30-7:30.

Parents and Guardians of our SCMS Coyotes,

1. 2nd Wave Bus Pickup. With cold weather having arrived, we are going to move to our cold weather pick up procedure for after school. Starting Monday, those students on 2nd wave buses will congregate in the cafeteria so they can stay warm while they wait. Buses will pick up outside of the cafeteria instead of in the bus turnaround area like normal.
2. Invitation to your 9th Grade Student's Assembly - October 28 during Den Time. All parents of 9th-grade students are invited to an assembly focused on planning for success in grades 9-12 and beyond on Tuesday, October 28, 2025, from 9:40 AM to 10:15 AM. This session will help your student navigate their high school career more effectively. CVHS and SCMS counselors will briefly cover the specific 28-credit requirement for graduation, detail how letter grades directly affect sports/extracurricular eligibility, future scholarships, and college applications. Furthermore, we'll review advanced academic opportunities, including Concurrent Enrollment (CE), Advanced Placement (AP) classes, & MTECH. Please plan to check in at the office on your way into the main auditorium.
3. Get Your Yearbook Soon! Don't forget to order your copy of the FIRST EVER Sage Canyon Middle School yearbook! Purchasing early ensures that your student will have a piece of our history. Yearbooks are $45 now, but prices will increase in the new year! You can secure your copy through myschoolfees.com. Don't wait to order before we sell out!
4. Halloween. Students are welcome to dress up for Halloween. We do not want them to take class time to put on costumes or apply makeup. We ask that the following guidelines be adhered to.
Must follow dress code.
No masks and other face paint that would make it difficult to identify a student.
No weapons or facsimiles of weapons.
Free of excessive gore.

Parents and Guardians of our SCMS Coyotes,

1. Scooters, Bikes, and Skateboards. We continue to have issues with students mis-using scooters, bikes, and skateboards during Den Time and lunch. Sometimes it is students mis-using their own item, oftentimes it is students using other student’s stuff. We have talked with students about needing to lock up these items on one of our 3 racks. After fall break, we will begin to collect any unlocked device and bring it in the office, so that it doesn't get missed or stolen.
2. Fall Break. There will be no school for fall break on Thursday, October 16th through Monday, October 20th.
3. Fall Flu Clinic. Please see the attached flyer for information about the Fall Flu Clinic on Wednesday, October 22nd at Frontier Middle School.

CRITICAL END OF TERM INFORMATION:

Today marks the end of Term 1. Our students and teachers have worked so hard to be successful and to help all students learn. That being said, we have learned some things about Sage Canyon that we would like to share with you moving forward, based on our Term 1 experience.

1. While today marks the end of the term, this does not end our pursuit of essential learning for all students that happened during term 1. During the next two weeks, Den Time will focus on helping those students who still have standards to learn get caught up. This also means that grades will continue to change and improve as students continue working on term 1 essential and related standards. If your child still has an F, we will continue to work with them over the next two weeks.
2. We have learned this past term that our teachers and students need greater access to students during Den Time. This past term, teachers had two days of intervention and two days of extension activities. Because we need more time to help students, all teachers in the building will now run three intervention sessions and 1 extension activity a week. Math teachers will have 4 days of intervention each week. We hope this will provide greater opportunities for students to get any needed help.
3. We also remind you that teachers are always available to work with students before and after school. While many of our students bus which makes this difficult, we do encourage you to continue to take advantage of before and after school help when possible.
4. We are also actively working to better communicate with parents through our gradebooks. Look for further individualized communication from teachers that will help clarify what the gradebook shows us about your student’s learning. But, most importantly, if you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out to your child’s teacher. Keep in mind, though, that if you respond during Fall Break, don’t expect a response until after the break.

Have a great fall break.

Parents and Guardians of our SCMS Coyotes,

1. Important Reminder-Drop Off/Pick Up Procedures. Please keep in mind the following drop off procedures. First, the buses for our Life Skills students will continue to drop off out front as close to their classroom as possible. Our students with limited mobility require this. Second, we use an “airport style” drop off. In other words, the far right lane is where you drop off your students. The far left lane is where you exit. Please do not drop off students from the left lane to keep them safe as they exit vehicles. Finally, please be patient with each other during these times as students enter and exit vehicles.
2. Fall Break. There will be no school for fall break on Thursday, October 16th through Monday, October 20th.
3. Fall Flu Clinic. Please see the attached flyer for information about the Fall Flu Clinic on Wednesday, October 22nd at Frontier Middle School.
4. Parents of 7th graders - (ALL testing opportunity)
We are excited to share that your 7th grade student has the opportunity to test for placement in an Advanced Learning Lab (ALL) class for 8th grade. The ALL classes are designed for students who demonstrate strong academic skills, motivation, and a readiness for more challenging coursework in English/History and/or Science. Click here if you would like more information and to register your student by October 22, 2025. If your student is already in 7th grade ALL class(es), they do not need to retest. If you have any questions, please contact your student's school counselor.
5. Basketball Open Gyms. A reminder that current 9th grade students can participate in our open gyms in preparation for 9th grade basketball tryouts. The boys are Tuesday and Thursday mornings at 6:45 am. The girls are Tuesday and Thursday evenings right after school at 3:00.

6.Lost and Found. Please have your students check our lost and found in the main office. All unclaimed items will be donated after Fall Break.

An accident on northbound I-15 in the Lindon area has caused significant delays on the freeway and artery roads.

This road closure will impact busing throughout the district. We anticipate bus delays at multiple schools, including activity buses.

All routes will be completed, but it is unknown how long this will take.

Parents and Guardians of our SCMS Coyotes,

1. Cross Country. It is never too late to join our cross country teams. Practices will be held on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays from 3:00–4:15 PM. Students should meet in room C115 right after school before heading out to train. This coming week’s meet is Wednesday, September 17 at Lehi Junior.
2. Celebration of Learning. We are excited to announce that we will continue with the great tradition of doing a “Celebration of Learning” instead of a traditional parent/teacher conference. As in the past, we will invite families to come in on that night and spend time in each of their students’ classrooms and see a showcase of their learning. The spring Celebration of Learning will be Wednesday, November 5th from 3:30 until 7:30. The fall Celebration of Learning will be Thursday, April 23rd from 3:30 until 7:30.

Have a great weekend! Go Coyotes!

Lockers are finally available! Here is the link: https://forms.gle/1f33gcRL8dxKxUVp8

Please review our prior note about lockers and how that process will work:

Dear Sage Canyon Parents,

For students who want a locker, they will be available starting Tuesday, September 2nd! Lockers will be assigned on a first-come, first-served basis. Please note that there are not enough lockers for every student to have one. A Google Form will be sent out on Tuesday, September 2nd, to request a locker. Locker requests are only available online. Please do not call or come into the office for lockers. Lockers are $2 each; students who receive a locker will have the $2 fee added to their student account. We appreciate your patience as we work through all the kinks that go along with opening a new school.

* Please DO NOT request a locker "just in case", if you are not certain it will be used. Thank you.

Another great week of learning and growing at SCMS. Here is this week’s update.

1. Pickleball Courts. We are so happy to have pickleball courts on our school grounds for our PE classes and other school level events. In addition to that, we are happy to keep these open for public use. So, before school and after school the public are welcome to come and use these courts as long as there is not a school event happening. You can never access the courts during school hours. As long as the courts are kept clean and nets are not damaged we will keep them open for our community.
2. Help Us Build a School Counseling Program. We are working to build a comprehensive school counseling program that best supports the academic, social-emotional, and career development needs of all our students. To do this effectively, we need input from one of our most important partners—you! Please take five minutes to complete our parent survey. Your feedback will help us shape services, programs, and supports that reflect the needs and priorities of our Sage Canyon Students.
3. Cross-Country. We remind you that this is the first year of Cross-Country at Sage Canyon Middle School! Practices will be held on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays from 3:00–4:15 PM. Students should meet in room C115 right after school before heading out to train. Our first meet will be on Wednesday, September 3rd at 5:00 PM at Mountain Ridge. See link for more details.
4. Chromebook Insurance. Don't forget to look into purchasing optional Chromebook insurance. Click here to learn more. Now that the year is going, if a student's computer is damaged, they can bring it in and get a loaner Chromebook while theirs is fixed. Once the damage is assessed a fine will be placed on the account based on the level of repair. If the student has insurance, parents will be instructed on how to file a claim.
5. Substitute Buses. On rare occasions, regular buses are replaced by a substitute bus. When that happens, the picture on the bus stays the same, even though the number of the bus is different. For that reason, please help students to know that they should look for the picture instead of the number.

Hi Coyotes!

Here are this week's updates and critical information for you as parents/guardians.

1. Job Positions at SCMS. Have you ever wanted to work at the same school as your child? If so, we still have a few open positions that we are looking to fill ASAP. We have an aide position in our resource classrooms. We also have an aide position in our Life Skills classroom. Go to Alpine School District’s employment site, create an application, and apply. Please email bdjolley@alpinedistrict.org once you apply to briefly introduce yourself.
2. Picture Make-up. On Tuesday, August 26th we will hold our school picture make-up day. This is for any student who did not get their picture taken this summer during our open house. We will hold picture re-takes in October for those who want a different picture.
3. Student Cafeteria Workers. Our cafeteria is in need of student workers. Any student who helps serve lunch gets their lunch for free. If your student is interested, have them come to the kitchen and talk to any of the adults and they will get them set up.
4. Dress Code. Here is our dress code. Please help your child dress in compliance with this code.
5. Cross Country. Our first cross country is coming up on September 3rd. It is never too late to join. Come after school ready to run and the front office will direct you to where the team meets.

Thanks for your support and patience as we worked out the details and evaluated our schedule for Wednesday lunches. We love working with our students!

Parents of Sage Canyon Students,
After studying this issue and gathering all of the information we could, we have decided that moving forward we will hold two lunches on Wednesday during 3rd period (A3 or B7). Being able to hold one lunch for all students is contingent on those students who are not eating school lunch being able to leave for home when lunch starts at 1:15. We simply have too many students who are bused to make it work in a safe and orderly manner.
We appreciate your patience as we worked through this issue. Here is a link to the new bell schedule which is also going to be posted in every classroom. What lunch your student has will be like any other day, dependent on their A3 or B7 teacher.

Sage Canyon Middle Families,

What a great first week of school! We loved seeing your children again, or for the first time, and we can’t wait to build this school community together! We will send an email each week, we commit to keep this email as brief as possible while also communicating critical information. Here is this week’s update.

Cross Country. Our first practices for Cross-Country start this week. It is never to late to join. All 7th, 8th, and 9th graders are welcome to come and run and develop resiliency and a great work ethic.

Wednesday Lunch. Look for an email on Tuesday with our plan moving forward and for further details.

What is Den Time? Every Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday, we will hold Den Time (what was known as Flex at Frontier Middle) right after 1st period. There are some major differences between our model and the model students experienced in the past. First, teachers will be able to easily request specific students each day for extra help. Second, students can request teachers on a regular basis if they need extra help or re-teaching. Finally, instead of staying in an advisory class when not requested for extra help, students will get to choose between a variety of extension and other activities. When Den Time begins every student will have an assigned or chosen activity or intervention period to attend.

Lunch Items

1st or 2nd Lunch. Remember, whether a student has 1st or 2nd lunch is dependent on who their A3 or B7 teacher is. Because of that, it is out of the norm for a student to have a different lunch on A day than B day. Please refer to this link to see which lunch your student has on A

Student ID. Students must scan their student ID if they are getting a school lunch. There are a few options if they forget their ID. First, their bar code on their chromebook is the same as their ID so they can scan that. Second, you can get a temporary bar code from the front office. Finally, we don’t want students to assume that they can’t eat if they lost or forgot their ID, our lunch room will work with students to get their meal.

Blocksi. Parents have access to a great tool to monitor or limit your students' Chromebook use. Please see this document for information about Blocksi and for how you can sign up for use.

As always, please feel free to reach out to the school for any questions. We love working with your students!

We are excited to provide you with details for tomorrow, the first day of school, Wednesday, August 13th.

  • Buses will run as normal. Please go to the district site to see bus pickup locations and times.

  • If you were unable to come to one of our open house dates to pick up a Chromebook for your student, they will receive that Chromebook during 1st period.

  • PLEASE COME WITH A COPY OF YOUR OWN SCHEDULE. Having a schedule with teacher name, period, and room number is helpful. There are a variety of ways to access your schedule.

  • For the first two weeks students will remain in their A1/B5 for Den Time (our flex time).

  • Please see the attachment for student pickup/drop off. The north drop off is for buses only, no student drop off by parents allowed. The south drop off is for non-bused students. This drop off has two lanes. We will use “airport” style for our student drop off. Please use the right lane to stop and drop your student off. Use the left lane to exit and leave the drop off zone. Finally, please do not use the parking lot to drop off students.

We can’t wait to welcome your students on Wednesday. Please let us know if you have any questions.

IMPORTANT REMINDER: As the new school year begins, please be aware that there will be a lot of additional traffic around our school properties, especially during drop-off and pick-up times. This will be particularly noticeable during the first few weeks of school as we welcome students and as families settle into routines. Please be extremely patient, and remember to put the safety of all students first.
